Ingredients

  • 2 tbs corn oil
  • 6 slices day old bread
  • 3 cups chopped cooked vegetables
  • 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 10.75 oz (300g) can condensed mushroom barley soup
  • 1/2 tsp basil
  • 1/2 tsp calcium
  • 1.5 oz liver

Method

  1. Evenly coat 8 x 8 x 2-inch (or 2-quart rectangular) baking dish with cooking spray. Cut bread into 1/2-inch cubes. Evenly sprinkle half of the cubes into prepared dish. Sprinkle vegetables and cheese over cubes. Sprinkle with remaining cubes.
  2. In medium bowl, beat together eggs, soup, milk and oil. Pour over bread-vegetable mixture. Cover. Refrigerate several hours or overnight.
  3. Bake in preheated oven 180C (160C fan assisted oven)/350F/gas mark 4 until knife inserted near centre comes out clean and top is golden brown, about 50 to 60 minutes.
  4. For the human version, omit the liver and calcium and add 1 tsp prepared mustard and 1/8 tsp pepper if desired. Add with other ingredients when beating eggs. You can either double the recipe quantities, putting calcium and liver into your pet’s dish and seasoning yours as desired and bake in two dishes or, using the original quantities, divide the mixture adding the calcium and liver to your pet’s portion and seasoning your portion as desired and again, bake in two dishes.
